Capturing different moments in the life of others in what intrigued Howard Kaplan as a young man to use his first Kodak Instamatic. Kaplan is a native of Detroit and started photography at the state news for three years and continued to work as photojournalist in Cape Cod, MA and in the Detroit area for two years.

Howard then attended the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena and completed the photography program graduating with honors in December 1990.
